Mindful Eating Habits: How Fit Mother Deb Got Intentional About Her Nutrition

mindful eating habits

Creating mindful eating habits starts with focusing on what your body actually needs to thrive.

Actually doing that, however, isn’t always easy.

Deb is a 60-year-old wife, mother, and pastoral minister, who has been absolutely kicking butt with her health and fitness!

But, that wasn’t always the case.

Deb would’ve described her physical condition as a mess just two years ago.

She had no energy, was bloated, overweight, and was going through many challenging life changes.

But during that time when all this stuff was shifting for Deb, she made the commitment to start working on her health because she knew she was out of alignment.

And she knew her health and fitness were huge reasons why.

So, she found the Fit Mother Project, started swinging those kettlebells and creating mindful eating habits, and the amount of transformation that happened for her over these past two years is absolutely incredible.

Think you’re ‘over the hill’?

Think it’s too late for a life change?

Think again!

Listen to Deb's Story on the Fit Mother Project Podcast:

Dealing With Trying Times

Deb was going through an excruciating time physically and emotionally as her health concerns were pushing her over the edge.

“I’m a post-cancer patient, now six years cancer free, but I had four surgeries related to my cancer and a bilateral mastectomy. I had five miscarriages when we were growing our family.”

She mentions how her growing age is taking a toll on her health.

“I have arthritis and stenosis in my back, which is deteriorating as I’m aging, as my doctor said.”

COVID was an even more challenging phase for Deb’s family.

They were living in transitional housing, and Deb had ended up in the hospital after getting infected with COVID.

She was furloughing out of work and had an emergency appendectomy.

Following the course of events, Deb was thoroughly enervated.

“So because of everything, I was suffering from adrenal fatigue. I was emotionally and physically exhausted, bloated, sick, and struggling.”

Deb came across the Fit Mother Project while browsing the internet and decided to give it a try.

She had tried several fitness programs before, but nothing ever stuck.

The Fit Mother Project did, and it turned out to be a lifesaver.

“I went all in because I needed something. At that moment, I needed a life raft or something solid as my eating was horrible. I ate all the wrong foods, indulged in stress eating, and drank too much alcohol.”

According to Deb, besides her food habits, there were other reasons also that demanded a strict fitness regime.

“I was terribly bloated, and, at minimum, 30 pounds overweight. Even beyond the weight, my mind was in the COVID fog.”

Find out how Deb created mindful eating habits and transformed her fitness and life!

Creating Mindful Eating Habits

Deb shares her first and lasting impression of the Fit Mother Project.

“This program is what I’ve been looking for to transform my life. I love it because it puts me into a community of people with incredible stories where we walk together.”

She credits her husband for supporting her throughout her journey with the Fit Mother Project.

Talking about the early changes she made after entering the program, Deb explains that her new water intake levels transformed her daily routine.

“Water has been transformational to me. Since I am a chronic migraine sufferer, the dehydration issue has come up with my neurologist and me over the years. So that was a difficult yet key starting point for me.”

Deb also elaborates how the program assisted her in giving up her unhealthy grazing habit and making her nutrition-conscious.

“I had a shift from the habit of unconscious grazing. The program has made me mindful and intentional about food and what my body really needs to thrive: good nutrition and upping my protein.”

Deb lost 30 pounds and became the best version of herself, even running a 200-mile relay race with the Fit Mother Project team.

Touching on the Sisterhood group on Facebook, she reveals how it has been more than just an online support committee.

“The Sisterhood is a place where you meet and gather people, check in, and support each other. If you fall off the wagon, people rally with you. Who would’ve ever thought we’d be building communities of camaraderie and real deep relationships over the internet?”

So what would Deb say to someone looking to join the Fit Mother Project?

“My words of encouragement are, don’t despair. Don’t give up. You can pick it up again. And the hardest words are not to worry too much about the number on the scale. Instead, focus on the body, mind, and spirit of transformation. When life sets you back, it doesn’t mean it’s over and done with you. You have to pull everything open again and move forward. But not to give up. There’s just too much goodness waiting. There’s too much reward. Just keep going.”

3 Key Takeaways From Deb's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Deb’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: Your Body, Mind, and Soul Are Interconnected

A huge thing Deb learned is that the body, mind, and spirit are interconnected.

If one component of the triad falls out of whack, it has a ripple effect on the other two components.

Mental shifts lead to physical fitness, which brings about all-around integration and true health and vitality.

Lesson 2: Setbacks Are Not ‘The End'

While on any journey, there will be setbacks and bumps in the road.

Getting off track does not mean that the journey is over.

Perseverance will get you through and lead you to success.

Lesson 3: Age Gracefully

You have to accept the fact that you are aging, as no one can stop it.

Don't blame aging for your negative tendencies and habits.

Age is just a number!

Live your life your way, and don't accept poor health and fitness simply as “a part of aging.”
