Raising a Healthy Family: How Fit Mother Beth Got in Shape With Her Husband and Inspired Her Kids To Live Healthier

raising a healthy family

Raising a healthy family is at the top of most parent's minds, but it's not always easy to get everyone on the same page with exercise and nutrition.

Beth, a wife and a mother of two, initially joined the Fit Mother Project because she wanted to support her husband, who was on the Fit Father Project.

But what Beth ended up discovering is that she wasn’t just trying something to support her husband; she was starting a complete lifestyle change — mentally, physically, and even spiritually.

Beth has shown profound growth, gotten stronger, and gotten rid of her limiting beliefs about her body.

Now she (and her whole family) are enjoying all sorts of different athletic activities that she didn't ever think would be possible for her.

And that really defines what the Fit Mother Project is all about — new outlooks and possibilities, and living a long and beautiful life together as a healthy family!

Listen to Beth's Story on the Fit Mother Project Podcast:

Bringing Everyone Together

Beth was always an active person.

Besides occasional weight fluctuations and manageable migraines, she barely had any personal reasons to join the Fit Mother Project.

“I was active, but I was never really an athlete. I have dealt with migraines my whole life, but I had gotten them to the point where I thought they were fairly manageable. So I was not looking for something for myself. But Chris had a lot of stress going on.”

2020 took a toll on Chris, who gained a few pounds due to work and other life stressors.

With a history of obesity and other related problems, he was concerned about where he was heading in his life.

“He was looking at a close family member who could barely walk because he needed a hip and knee replacement but was too heavy to have the surgeries. He also couldn't get exercise to lose weight. And that's not where Chris wanted to end up, especially with the boys as they were teenagers. He wanted to be a different kind of father for them. And so he felt like he needed to do something different, and I wanted to support that.”

Chris landed on the Fit Father Project after thoroughly researching fitness programs for people over 40 and joined immediately.

Both Beth and Chris had tried other weight loss programs in the past with some success, but their weight loss was never sustainable.

Beth found the program's initial phase overwhelming but suggested following through.

“The first month can feel overwhelming, and I suggest everyone follow through with it because of the education part of the program. It helps us make the right decisions for ourselves. It teaches us about nutrition, not only what healthy choices to make but why to make those choices. So it could start off feeling overwhelming, but then it becomes simple.”

The program's flexible nutrition appealed to Beth because her children also picked it up quite naturally.

“Regarding nutrition, I appreciated that the program simplifies and adapts to our schedule.”

Initially, Beth was just following Chris' routine.

But after benefitting from it, she decided she wanted to be a part of the Fit Mother Project and walk her own fitness path.

Following this, Chris gifted her the Fit Mother Project, and she was off and running!

Raising a Healthy Family

Over three months into the program, Beth found herself becoming stronger and fitter.

She was doing things she never thought she could do.

“By the time I got to the third month, I could do all the pushups from my toes. Never, ever would've thought I could have done stuff like that. I also did skiing 18 years after being a pitiful skier.”

Beth lost 26 pounds and weighed less than she was at 19.

She has more energy, gained strength, and can keep up with her zestful teenage kids.

All in all, she is free from the limiting beliefs about her body.

Beth now owns her journey, and it means much more than just supporting her husband.

“While I'm still supporting Chris, now this is about me. This journey is mine now because I thought I had some limits, but they are gone now. So now I want to see what else I can do.”

Recalling her mission statement, Beth says that she wanted to create a balance between being a good mother and being fit because she wanted to give a better version of herself to those she cared for.

Another way the program has brought value to Beth's family is that it has made her youngest son more aware of the connection of his anxiety with his body.

Inspired by his parents, he looks after what he feeds his body and how that affects how he feels.

“At 15, with the help of this program, Chris and I have given him better ways of coping with anxiety.”

Beth also says the family dynamics have greatly improved.

So what would Beth say to someone looking to join the Fit Mother Project?

“Take before photos and measurements. I don't have any of that, and I wish now I had those to look back on. Also, patience and persistence will help you stick with the program. So don't limit yourself, and give it a try. Trying to be a healthier version of yourself will not hurt anything. You don't realize what benefits for you or your family might be out there. Don't become complacent because every day is going to be different. Some days we are up against things that were not up to on other days. Keep yourself accountable for how you used that day and handled the challenges that the day threw at you.”

3 Key Takeaways From Beth's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Beth’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: You Can't Take Care of Your Loved Ones Without Taking Care of Yourself

To care for your family and loved ones, you must first care for yourself.

Toiling for others at the cost of your health is not a sacrifice you should make.

Only by looking after yourself can you look after anyone else.

Self-care is never selfish and inspires the family to do the same.

Lesson 2: There Is No End Date to Your Fitness Routine

Setting an expiry date on your fitness routine does not help you in the long run.

Fitness is a constant work in progress.

Therefore, one has to keep working to stay healthy.

Achieving short-term goals is easier than maintaining fitness because maintaining fitness takes persistence and consistency.

Lesson 3: Don't Become Complacent

Celebrate your little victories but don't become complacent.

Each day is different than the last.

Each new day brings new challenges with it.

Some days you are more equipped and prepared than others.

Complacency only leaves you in a position of not trying harder or not opening yourself to new life experiences.
